Italian Language classes for Adults

Summer 2026

All the Italian classes at Casa Italiana are held in full immersion and English is used only when needed.

The primary objective of all courses is to encourage and develop speaking and comprehension skills.

Levels are based on the CEFRL (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

You can easily find the class that best suits your level and goals.

 

If you are not sure about your level of knowledge of the language, schedule a Placement Exam

Note: all the in-person classes are at 595 Third Street.

Beg classes

BEGINNER CLASSES

BEGINNER 1

Students with no prior knowledge of the Italian language will communicate in simple, everyday situations. Course includes practice in reading, writing and basic grammar.

BEGINNER 2

Designed for those with basic knowledge of the language, this course provides practice in conversation and introduction of new vocabulary and more complex grammatical structures.

Students will complete an overview of basic Italian grammar focusing on speaking, reading and writing skills.

BEGINNER REVIEW

Through grammar and reading S.Longo and R. Assini book, “La Fuga di Bach” students will review the major challenges in Italian grammar, including the verb system, areas of contrast with the English language, and some vocabulary issues.  This course is focused on improving grammar and fluency.​

ITALIAN FOR TRAVELERS

Planning a trip to Italy?  This class is designed for those traveling to Italy for business or pleasure. Learn about the transportation systems, currency and culture, idiomatic phrases to help you get a taxi, asking/receiving directions, making reservations, shopping, food selection and, of course, making new friends!

GRAMMAR REVIEW

This course is designed for students who would like to review and strengthen the essential grammar structures covered in New Italian Espresso 1. Through clear explanations, guided practice, and communicative activities, participants will revisit key topics such as present and past tenses, articles, prepositions, pronouns, adjectives, and common sentence structures. The course provides a supportive environment to clarify doubts, improve accuracy, and build greater confidence in speaking and writing Italian. Ideal for beginners and lower-intermediate learners who wish to reinforce their foundation before moving to the next level.

INTERMEDIATE CLASSES

INTERMEDIATE 1

Students will deal with more complex Italian grammar and syntax to enable them to express themselves in various verb tenses: present, past and future.

This course will cover the last chapters of the book “New Italian Espresso - Intermediate and Advanced”. Emphasis will be on stylistic and idiomatic expressions to reinforce the student’s speaking and reading abilities.

DEEP INTO ITALIAN REVIEW 3

The course is intended for those who have completed Deep Into Italian 2 and wish to maintain and improve their proficiency. Students will study more complex grammar structures, advanced vocabulary and Italian collocations, to learn how to use the language like a native speaker. Authentic material will be used to practice their aural and reading comprehension.

INTERMEDIATE  CONVERSATION

 

In this course, students will discuss, investigate, and learn about contemporary Italian society and culture.  Incorporating the rich traditions of the Bel Paese, the class will explore today’s Italy through the lens of pivotal themes, such as food, fashion, family dynamics, and the arts.
