Literature and Culture Spring 2026

Casa Italiana offers also classes to enrich the knowledge of the Italian literature and culture. 

Each semester there is a new, fascinating course! From Italian movie classics to literary classics, to the study of characters that have made Italy what it is today, Casa Italiana's teachers will show you another side of the "Bel Paese".

ANTHOLOGY OF ITALIAN
CINEMA ART

Selections from movies will provide mature students with a rich overview of Italian history and society.  Discussions and role play will serve as a pretext for improving conversation skills and fluency, while analyzing the cultural and social aspects of the Italian lifestyle.  Grammar and syntax will be reviewed, as necessary, during class discussion.

VOCI DI AUTORI ITALIANI

The course is taught entirely in Italian and is designed for advanced higher-level students. The course aims at motivating students to expand their reading comprehension skills and vocabulary through reading excerpts of literary fiction, magazines, and newspaper articles. Students will also be exposed to videos and short movies to strengthen their oral comprehension. Fluency will be enhanced through class discussions.

Tuition: $400 (book not included) 12 weeks

ITALIAN LITERATURE 

(“DELITTO al PALATINO”)

In April 357 AD, Rome, long neglected by the emperors, returns to center stage: the Christian ruler Constantius II, son of Constantine the Great, arrives to celebrate his reign. The perfect of the city and the senate, already grappling with the conflicts between Christians and pagans, and even among the Christians themselves, already divided into fractions, must ensure that everything runs smoothly. 


Students will discuss the book and do research proposed by the instructor.

CONTEMPORARY ITALY

This course will take you on a journey through the lesser-known sides of Italian culture in the 21st century. Acquire greater fluency, while discovering new aspects of culture and life in modern Italy such as contemporary writers, personalities from recent past, unsolved political mysteries, and tourist destinations off the beaten path, regional cuisine, and present-day Italian society. 
Students improve their Italian through newspaper articles, excerpts from novels, videos, and online research. The course’s website will help students reinforce the new vocabulary, by providing access to class material, both visual and written, along with a variety of online resources for self-study. As part of the course, each student will give a class presentation on a topic of their choice, related to contemporary Italy.
