All the Italian classes at Casa Italiana are held in full immersion and English is used only when needed.
The primary objective of all courses is to encourage and develop speaking and comprehension skills.
Levels are based on the CEFRL (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
You can easily find the class that best suits your level and your goals.
If you are not sure about your level of knowledge of the language schedule a Placement Test.

BEGINNER CLASSES

Beginner Review
Through the grammar and the reading of the book by S.Ciani and S. Gavelli "Scoprire l'Italia", students will review the major challenges in Italian grammar, including the verb system, areas of contrast with English, and some vocabulary issues. They will discover Italy through a treasure hunt with stops in Florence, Naples, Venice, Siena, Milan and Agrigento. This course is focused on improving grammar and fluency.

BASIC CONVERSATION
In this course, students discuss, investigate, and learn about contemporary Italian society & culture. Incorporating the rich traditions of the Bel Paese, we will explore today’s Italy through the lens of pivotal themes, such as food, fashion, family dynamics, and arts. A course designed for Intermediate students. Students will read the book “La testa degli Italiani” by Beppe Severgnini. A very interesting book, that makes you reflect on the nature of Italians as stereotype and helps you to see things from a different perspective. It could be considered a philosophical essay. During the course students will refine, and review relevant points of grammar and critique a samples of movie’s passages. Through guided discussions students will improve their conversational skills and as always they will have activities involving speaking, reading, listening and some writing.

INTERPRETAZIONI - Italian Language and Culture through Film
This course aims to teach Italian Language & Culture through film, focusing on Italian movies from 2010 to 2017. The activities of the book based on the films are divided into three main categories (before, during, and after viewing the film) with a natural progression from warm-up questions, to closed and controlled exercises, to open ended and creative tasks, both oral and written, including grammar practice, all within the context of each single film.
