In this course, students will discuss, investigate, and learn about contemporary Italian society and culture. Incorporating the rich traditions of the Bel Paese, the class will explore today’s Italy through the lens of pivotal themes, such as food, fashion, family dynamics, and the arts.

Advanced students with an excellent command of Italian will converse on social issues elicited from video, articles and excerpts provided by the instructor. The course is geared to improve conversation and fluency. Written and oral productions are encouraged. Grammar will be covered as it emerges from class discussions.

The course, taught entirely in Italian, is designed for post-advanced students who have reached a high level of proficiency and would like to further expand their knowledge of the language. Students will be introduced to the art of Italian ceramics by Maestro ROBERTO PAOLINELLI.
The course will present the aesthetic and technical aspects of the ceramic process and a survey of the three most important Italian schools. Studio sessions will cover sculpting, decorating, and glazing skills.
Students will learn both from premade pieces and will also have the opportunity to make works of their own. Students at advanced levels will learn new decorations.
